Abuse-of-Power Watch

It's hard to say if this is political surrealism, dadaism, or just plain irony.

Street Activism

I spent most of the day on Saturday helping other excited Obama campaign volunteers staff a table at the corner of 4th and Pine in Downtown Seattle, offering buttons, bumperstickers and the chance to take a photo with Obama (or at least a facsimile). The crowd of passers by were almost universally enthusiatic and supportive, save for a clatch of Pro-Palin frat-boys and a screaming, embittered Hillary supporter threatening to write-in her name.

We'll be there again next Saturday, the last weekend before The Big Day.

Senior Moment of the Day

The Really Right Answer

"Well, the correct answer is, he [Obama] is not a Muslim, he's a Christian. He's always been a Christian," he said. "But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer's no, that's not America. Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be president? Yet, I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion, 'He's a Muslim and he might be associated terrorists.' This is not the way we should be doing it in America."

So Much for the SuperHero Vote

Apparently Lynda "Wonder Woman" Carter is not amused about comparisons between Sarah Palin and Carter's former role on TV.

"She’s judgmental and dictatorial, telling people how they’ve got to live their lives," Carter added. "And a superior religious self-righteousness … that’s just not what Wonder Woman is about. Hillary Clinton is a lot more like Wonder Woman than Mrs. Palin. She did it all, didn’t she?"

You go, girl.

Give This Man A Prize! (Oh, They Did.)

On the economic policy of the Bush administration: “There is no economic policy. That’s really important to say. The general modus operandi of the Bushies is that they don’t make policies to deal with problems. They use problems to justify things they wanted to do anyway. So there is no policy to deal with the lack of jobs. There really isn’t even a policy to deal with terrorism. It’s all about how can we spin what’s happening out there to do what we want to do.”

Terrorism

At a McCain rally in New Mexico, a crowd member cries out "Terrorist" when McCain snarls his rhetorical "Who is the REAL Barack Obama?"

At a Palin rally in Florida, while Palin accuses Obama of "palling around with terrorists" like Ayers, a crowd member says "Kill him!" At another rally, the crowd turns mean against the press, with one member hurling a racial epithet at an African American sound technician and told him to "Sit down."

Reverse Psychology

Quote of the Day/Blast from the Past

"I watch you at these debates with no notes, no papers, and yet when asked questions, you spout off facts, figures, and policies, and I'm amazed. But then I look out into the audience and I ask myself, 'Does any of this really matter?' "
