On the Cover of the Rolling Stone. Or Not.

MICHAEL EISNER: So, you put Obama on the cover of Rolling Stone —

JANN WENNER: Yeah.

ME: Because he is of your children's generation?

JW: No, I put him on the cover because I am just — swallowed the Kool-Aid and I'm for him, and I wanna throw the, you know, impact of whatever it may be at Rolling Stone behind him and — and throw everything we've got behind him. I think that's a really important thing in our times.

ME:But, you've had Bill Clinton on the cover. You've edited — or — or interviewed Bill Clinton yourself.

JW: Uh-huh (AFFIRM). Several times.

ME: But not Hillary?

JW: No.

ME: Isn't that — so, he —

JW: Well —

ME: — doesn't call up? "Jann — you know, that cover I did for you? And you know how I've been friends of yours and support all these years? What is Obama on the cover of your — "

JW: He —

ME: — "magazine?"

JW: — didn't call. I — if you read what we said about Obama, it's pointless for him to call up. But, we offered Hillary a chance to be on a cover with Obama and Edwards early on in the campaign. They were agreeable, and she was not agreeable to it. You know, 'cause [the Clinton camp] thought they were the front-runner. They didn't need this. They didn't need to speak to the Rolling Stone readers, you know?

Walk The Walk

I've been slammed with work at my day job (six days a week lately) and pouring every other minute into the Obama campaign: registering voters in Seattle and Portland, phoning people in states with upcoming primaries and caucuses, working with a local group of volunteers designing and making thousands of buttons we've sent around the country to grass-roots organizations hungry for campaign materials.

As the upcoming 7th Congressional District Caucus fast approaches, I have to set aside some time for my own campaign--to be elected as a National Delegate and represent Washington State at the Democratic National Convention in August. So here's my very first campaign-design work for me. Then I can go back to designing buttons and registering voters and making calls to help get this wise, dynamic person elected the 44th United States President.

Blast from the Past

"If one candidate's trying to scare you, and the other one's trying to get you to think; if one candidate's appealing to your fears, and the other one's appealing to your hopes; you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope"

- Bill Clinton, at a John Kerry event in 2004
