Let me get this straight... part 3

“If I were a citizen of New Hampshire, I would oppose it. … Anything that impinges or impacts the sanctity of the marriage between men and women, I’m opposed to it.” --John McCain

How the hell does two people of the same gender getting hitched impact the "sanctity" of anyone else's marriage.... especially someone with a track record like this.

Bill Moyers for President.

He's been in the White House, he can handle the press (he was LBJ's Press Secretary). And he's got a firm grasp of exactly what's at stake.

In the wake of the girl-stalking gunman in Virginia...

"Thirty-three people were killed. Some were queer, and others were straight allies. The GLBT community at Tech grieves in the same way as others — deeply and as part of a greater whole.... Yes, there were gay people that were killed. One was a very close friend of mine. But I don't feel comfortable talking about it because I haven't talked to the families and I want to be respectful to the families, first and foremost. I don't want this to be a gay thing, because it's not a gay thing. It's an everybody thing."

-- Virginia Tech GLBT Student Alliance president Curtis Dahn, confirming gay students among the casualties in the massacre earlier this week.

Rosanne Contrition

"I deeply regret that I have offended gay people. I said things that I donot really mean, before I had thought them through... I was wrong and Iseriously apologize! Call me up today and let me have it! I will apologize and try to make clearwhat I really meant to say... which was that everybody needs to unite right now,and step outside of their own neighborhoods, groups, races and classes to stopBush's war on our country and our people. I love gays and I hate division. I amjust a big idiot with a big mouth sometimes. I will learn to be more careful! Please forgive me, I am so sorry!!!! The leaders of gay groups need to align with the leaders of Acorn, and othergroups of poor and desperate Americans and fight against those who oppress allof us! I have met too many gays who are Republicans, and I cannot understand howthey could choose that! Let's all leave our own bedrooms, kitchens, neighborhoods and groups andmeet each other to form a diverse army that stands for Democracy and EconomicJustice!!!! (Again I apologize for any pain or hurt I have caused those whom I havealways loved and befriended)."

Kurt Vonnegut Dead, World a Colder Place

“Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — ‘God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.’ ”

Futureshock Absorbers

The Brits' Ministry of Defence predicts the future.

With Friends Like This...

"Never once in my 54 years have I ever once heard a gay or lesbian person who’s politically active say one thing about anything that was not about them. They don’t care about minimum wage, they don’t care about any other group other than their own self because you know, some people say being gay and lesbian is a totally narcissistic thing and sometimes I wonder. I’ve never heard any of them say anything except for 'accept me ‘cause I’m gay.' It’s just, it’s screwed. It’s no different than the evangelicals, it’s the same mindset. They want you to accept Jesus and you guys want us to all believe it’s ok to be gay. And a lot of us, a lot of them, I do, I don’t give a damn who anybody has sex with, as long as they’re not underage and an animal. I don’t give a damn, it’s none of my damn business. I’m just sick of all the divisiveness, it’s not getting any of us anywhere." --Rosanne Barr
